Polestar has introduced its first volume model and the Volvo Group's first modern electric model: the Polestar 2. Polestar specifically calls the Tesla Model 3 and will compete with it in terms of performance, range and price.

Starting from the Polestar 1, the 2 borrowed in the same spirit. Unlike the 1, however, it is completely electric with a range of 500 km (275 miles). He brings out 408 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque.

That's good enough for an impressive 5 seconds (0-62 mph). If you choose the performance package, you'll get big Brembo brakes, golden Ohlins shocks and a golden safety belt.

"Polestar 2 is our first all-electric car and first volume model. Everything was designed and constructed with passion and dedication, "says Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. "As an electric power brand and the impending introduction of a full electric car portfolio, Polestar is committed to meeting the challenges of air quality in the world. Polestar delivers electric power cars that are great to own and drive. "

Although the prices for the launch edition of the Polestar 2 start at 59,900 euros ($ 63,000 or $ 55,500 if you apply the tax refund), but the brand is pushing again from Tesla and says that a later issue at 39,900 Euro will be available. The Polestar 2 is offered as a subscription, but prices have not yet been announced.

The car, however, is not just about performance. Like Volvo, Polestar has integrated Android into its infotainment system, allowing owners to use their phone as a key.

That, says Polestar, will enable car sharing and should also allow some nice features. For example, as you approach the car, the infotainment screen may check to see how much it costs before you even get in. And it's not just state-of-the-art technology.

"We decided to bring something else to the segment. Our avant-garde design has evolved from Polestar 1 to a bolder, bolder statement, "says design chief Maximilian Missoni. "We also designed a standard vegan interior with progressive textiles that appeals to the forward-thinking audience that subscribes to Polestar 2."

Although you can find the Polestar 2 in the Polestar Spaces when they appear, the car is only sold online. You can already pre-order the car on the Polestar website.

Production is expected to begin in China in early 2020. It will be available to both left-hand and right-hand drivers, but the first markets are China, the US, Canada, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Other markets are eligible.
