Before heading to the Mexico City (MEX) for the fourth round of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, the two BMW i Andretti Motorsport riders visited a special venue on Monday. In the competence center for electric drives, António Félix da Costa (POR) and Alexander Sims (GBR) met with the engineers who designed and installed the ReD01 drive for the BMW iFE.18. It was time for the two drivers to thank each other.

"I am very pleased that this opportunity presented itself before the Mexico City E-Prix," said Félix da Costa. "The BMW i experts were at my side when I won at the premiere of the BMW iFE.18. These guys make us fast and win races – and it's nice to come here and see where everything happens. We drivers can not thank you enough for developing such a fantastic powertrain. "Sims said," I find the technology behind our drivetrain intriguing and saluting all the staff here to get the job done – we could not do without it. I'm delighted with such a success in Formula E. It feels fantastic to give them everything in every race to thank them for their great work with good results. "

The two drivers met their colleagues, who also develop the drive trains for the BMW i series models, at an autograph session in the Taunusstraße in Munich (GER). Nicolai Martin, Head of Development of Electric Drives, and BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt had already welcomed the two drivers and reviewed the milestones of the Formula E project. Martin said: "It's just fantastic to see that we are so competitive in Formula E with the BMW i powertrain for racing and the car components developed by BMW Motorsport. António's win at the season opener has inspired everyone in our team and has shown us that we can set the benchmark at BMW even in a fully performance-driven environment. We are all very proud of that. "

Marquardt added, "The center of excellence for electric drives is at the heart of our technology lab for iNeXT and future generations of BMW i models. One thing is already clear after the first races: Our colleagues here responded excellently to the high-performance challenges of motorsport. The knowledge gained from the Formula E project flows directly into the development of BMW i series drives. It is precisely this technology transfer that makes Formula E so valuable to us. "

The next competition for the BMW iFE.18 will take place on Saturday in Mexico City. Félix da Costa travels to third with 28 points in the drivers' standings to Mexico. Sims is currently tenth with 18 points.
