Today ALPINA together with BMW presents the revised version of the exclusive B7 xDrive sedan. The new 2020 B7 is the 6ththGeneration performance luxury model from ALPINA and the 3 Seriesrd Be available from B7 generation in the USA
Smooth performance, explosive power transmission
The new ALPINA B7 xDrive sedan convinces in addition to its highly praised smoothness due to a sharper response and improved power delivery over the entire speed range. Constant developments and detailed improvements mean that the combination of high torque and a transmission with high dynamic characteristics leads to improved performance compared to its predecessor.
The latest-generation 4.4-liter V8 engine with twin-scroll turbochargers, direct injection and fully variable Valvetronic valve timing and Double VANOS variable camshaft control delivers 600 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.
The exhaust side of the turbocharger is equipped with an impeller of 54 mm (previously 50 mm) diameter. In addition, the ALPINA-specific intercoolers have a connection to compensate for and reduce pressure pulsations between the two cylinder banks of the V8 engine. Together with a new engine management software, this means that the maximum torque of 590 lb.-ft. is now only available at 2000 rpm to 5,000 rpm (previously 3,000 – 5,000 rpm). This leads to a significantly improved throttle response, a stronger power transmission and an effective increase in performance in the most relevant speed range.
The new ALPINA B7 now accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds (previously 3.6 seconds) and reaches a top speed of 205 mph (previously 194 mph).
All components of the ALPINA high performance cooling system are designed to eliminate inefficiencies and maximize efficiency – special large capacity coolers are interconnected by large diameter tubes for maximum throughput. The intercoolers include an indirect air-water-air arrangement to allow for short air intake paths. In combination with additional external radiators and a transmission oil cooler, the system ensures constant thermodynamic stability of the V8 engine with two turbochargers, even under the highest loads and high ambient air temperatures.
The new ALPINA B7 features ZF's latest 8-speed sports automatic transmission (8HP76) with ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC. The transmission software has been thoroughly redesigned by ALPINA and adapted to the features of the new V8 V8 turbocharger to deliver exceptional ride comfort and performance in all situations.
Tight gear ratios and a spread of 7.81: 1 result in high gearshift comfort and efficiency. In automatic mode, the combination of eight gears and high engine torque allows for relaxed driving at low engine speeds, even at higher speeds. In Sport mode, the shift times have been improved over the previous generation of B7 and are now much faster.
Transmission components such as the torque converter with lock-up clutch and the planetary gear sets are reinforced and designed together with the internal transmission cooling to the high torque of the V8 engine with two turbochargers. This means that when upshifting no reduction in torque is required.
The ALPINA sports exhaust system made of stainless steel reduces backpressure and weight. Active exhaust valves allow the driver to change the sound experience by choosing between Comfort and Sport modes with the Driving Experience Control switch. Typically ALPINA: The two double tailpipes of the exhaust system are elegantly integrated into the rear bumper.
The ALPINA sports suspension provides agility and unsurpassed comfort.
The new ALPINA B7 combines the latest suspension technology to deliver exceptional ride comfort at all speeds, unmatched agility and precise handling.
The standard two-axle air suspension system in combination with Dynamic Damper Control and Active Comfort Drive with Road Preview guarantees maximum ride comfort, while active roll stabilization minimizes body roll during cornering. The rear-axle steering of the standard Integral Active Steering system lends the new ALPINA B7 class maximum dynamics and light-footedness.
The Active Comfort Drive with Road Preview also includes a forward-looking suspension control function. The pre-information for controlling the combination of suspension systems is learned from driving style analysis data, data from the navigation system and a stereo camera, and significantly increases ride comfort and active safety.
While the two-axis auto-leveling air suspension system is primarily responsible for exceptional ride comfort, it allows for a total ride height adjustment of 1.4 inches. At speeds over 140 km / h or when Sport + Mode is selected, the new ALPINA B7 automatically reduces its ride height by 0.6 inches for a lower center of gravity and improved handling. If necessary, the ride height can be increased by up to 20 miles per hour to increase ground clearance.
The Electronic Damper Control settings, which affect both rebound and compression, can be selected using the Driving Experience Control switch. There are numerous ALPINA damper settings available, ranging from Comfort + Mode for effortless and relaxed cruising to ALPINA Sport + Mode for maximum dynamics.
Standard Integral Active Sport Steering
Combined with the powerful powertrain and all-wheel drive, Integral Active Steering offers a first-class driving experience. It combines a variable-ratio electric steering system on the front axle with an active steering system on the rear axle, allowing the wheels to turn by a maximum of 3 degrees. The rear axle is specially calibrated for the ALPINA suspension and the MICHELIN® tires with emergency running characteristics and steers against the front axle at low speed. This increases agility and dynamic driving behavior. Conversely, the rear axle steers at higher speeds with the front axle for maximum directional stability.
ALPINA CLASSIC wheels and model-specific MICHELIN® performance tires
The new ALPINA B7 is equipped with MICHELIN® Performance tires, which measure 255/40 ZR20 at the front and 295/35 ZR20 at the rear and are mounted on 8.5 x 20-inch and 10 x 20-inch ALPINA CLASSIC wheels. Optional 21 "ALPINA CLASSIC wheels feature an extremely minimalist design – high density and high strength aluminum through forging results in weight savings of more than 20% of the unsprung mass per wheel. The MICHELIN® Performance tires were designed to meet the requirements developed by high performance sports cars. They contribute directly to the precise steering feel of the new ALPINA B7 and forego run-flat technology in the interest of improved ride comfort. For customers who so desire, 20-inch all-season tires are available as a chargeable option.
Performance braking system
A redesigned brake system, now using brake-by-wire technology, combines powerful braking power with consistent brake pedal feedback. At the front, 4-piston fixed calipers are paired with 15.55 x 1.42-inch discs. On the rear axle, floating calipers are now paired with larger 15.67 x 1.10-inch discs.
BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel system with ALPINA calibration.
The all-wheel drive builds on the technical potential of BMW's xDrive system and its intelligent drive power distribution, which continuously distributes torque between the front and rear axles within milliseconds for maximum traction and control. The programming of the torque distribution control, which is connected to the Dynamic Stability Control and the engine management system, is performance-oriented and increases the agility and driving dynamics – especially with lateral acceleration – significantly with consistent and neutral driving behavior.
The design of the 7 Series, the epitome of the BMW flagship sedan, has been characterized by progressive, sporty elegance for generations. The legendary BMW kidney grille has grown in size and function and together with new, slim headlamps forms the powerful appearance of the front end. The new, more modern appearance of the ALPINA styling and aerodynamic elements underlines the visual presence of the new ALPINA B7 and its performance character.
A new front bumper with functional air intake, free-floating ALPINA logo and horizontal character lines, in conjunction with the rear spoiler, effectively reduces front and rear lift to almost zero, providing excellent stability at high speeds.
The ALPINA sports exhaust system made of stainless steel has two elliptical twin tailpipes, which are neatly integrated into the rear bumper and give the rear a smooth, elegant appearance.
The exclusive finishes in ALPINA Blue metallic and ALPINA Green metallic are a trademark reserved exclusively for BMW ALPINA automobiles. A large selection of other finishes from BMW and BMW Individual is also available.
Interior design and equipment.

Discreet ALPINA details ensure exclusivity and individual style inside the new ALPINA B7. Handcrafted from exceptionally high-quality LAVALINA leather, the sports steering wheel with its blue and green stitching impresses with its luxurious appearance at the first press of a button.
Contemporary piano lacquer or the classic interior trim Myrtle Luxury Wood, thresholds with blue lighting, ALPINA B7 model lettering and an individual production panel are examples of exclusive features.
The advanced, full-color, digital instrument display features a new ALPINA design with classic or dynamic visualization, depending on the selected driving mode. It is networked with the latest connectivity and communication features.
Increased acoustic comfort.
A number of refinements improve the acoustic comfort on board the new ALPINA B7. The tire noise of the exclusive luxury sedans was achieved by a new shield in the rear wheel arches in the rear compartment. Further reduction of the interior noise level is achieved through improved B-pillar sound attenuation elements, seat belt covers and rear seatback. Laminated glass with an increased thickness of 0.2 inches is now used not only for the windshield, but also for the side windows and the rear window.
The improved sound insulation is an essential factor for the high comfort of the new ALPINA B7. The power windows have new drive motors and control units that provide precise power management, smooth movement and consistent noise when windows are lowered and raised.

The standard Driving Assistance Professional package complements the range of Driving Assistance Professional features. It offers extensive support to make driving as safe and comfortable as possible. This comprehensive package includes Extended Access Restricted Interstate Access Control, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Active Lane Keeping Assistant with Side Collision Prevention, Steering and Jam Assist, Automatic Lane Change and Evasion Assistant & Cross Traffic Alarm.
The extended congestion assistant for motorways with limited access relieves the driver during the most tedious part of the road traffic. This Assist system operates on shared highways at speeds of up to 37 miles per hour and uses the inboard, driver-facing camera to allow the driver to extend his hands as he pays attention to the upcoming road. It also handles the acceleration and braking and can use navigation data to adjust the driving speed to the planned route. As a result, the vehicle is automatically decelerated to a suitable speed in preparation for upcoming turns, intersections or roundabouts. The camera-based traffic sign recognition system uses the navigation data to gather information about upcoming speed limits to consider in advance.
Evasion Assistant & Cross-traffic Alert can help prevent collisions with vehicles or pedestrians that are suddenly on the driver's path. As soon as an evasive maneuver is detected that corresponds to such a scenario, the system assists the driver when he steers the vehicle into a free secondary lane.
Improved autofocus and visibility in the dark: BMW Head-Up Display and BMW Night Vision.
By projecting information graphics onto the windshield, the optional BMW Head-Up Display offers a particularly effective way of focusing on the driving task. The system mirrors the information directly into the driver's field of vision where it can be assimilated without having to look away from the road. These include vehicle speed information, speed limits and overtake limits, check control messages, status indicators and alerts from other assistance systems, detailed turn off instructions, and phone and entertainment lists.
The optional BMW Night Vision system includes the detection of pedestrians and animals as well as a marker light. It transmits a real-time video image to the control display with people, larger animals and other heat-emitting objects. All detected objects are additionally illuminated with the marker light function of the headlights.
A helping hand when parking and maneuvering: Standard Parking Assist Plus and rear view camera.
The drivers of the new ALPINA B7 also receive effective assistance with parking and maneuvering. The standard Active Park Distance Control (PDC) with front and rear sensors has a number of features, including not only visual and audible warnings, but also the automatic application of brakes to avoid collisions with obstacles around the vehicle prevent.
A reversing camera is also standard, as is the automatic parking assistant for automatic selection and maneuvering in areas that can now be either parallel or perpendicular to the road. Suitable parking spaces are identified by ultrasonic sensors as the vehicle drives past. During the parking process, the system takes over the control of the accelerator, the brakes and the steering and the gear change. In addition, the system can also be used for automatic maneuvering from parallel parking spaces.
Unique in the segment: Backup Assistant.
Another standard feature of the Parking Assistant Plus is the sophisticated back-up assistant, which helps the driver to leave parking spaces or to maneuver in limited space. This system is the only one of its kind in this segment and offers the extremely comfortable possibility of automated reversing, especially in confined spaces or in situations where the driver does not have an unobstructed view, such as multi-storey car parks, entrances to courtyards or narrow yards driveways. This is done by storing the steering movements that were made during the last forward maneuver of the vehicle at speeds up to 22 miles per hour. The system can then steer the vehicle exactly over distances of up to 50 meters on the same line it needed to travel forwards. The driver only has to operate the accelerator pedal and the brake pedals and monitor the surroundings of the vehicle.
The Panorama View and 3D Top View functions display a 360 ° image of the vehicle and its surroundings from different perspectives in the Control Display. With the Remote 3D View feature, drivers can also view a three-dimensional live image of their vehicle and its immediate surroundings via the smartphone.
