Yulia Vladimirovna Drunina is a poetess, a front-line soldier, through all of whose work the theme of war was a common thread.

I sometimes feel connected
Between those who are alive
And who was taken away by the war …

Muscovite Drunina, whose biography began on May 10, 1924 and ended on November 21, 1991, grew up in a family of Soviet intellectuals: a pedagogue-historian and a musician. In childhood, she read out the books of A.Dyum and L.Charskaya. In them she drew the ideas of romance, chivalry, courage and struggle, carrying them through all her life.

She started to be engaged in creative work early, mainly her poems were used in the design of school wall newspapers, but young Julia could already feel the taste of fame. And when one of the poems was published in the Teacher's Newspaper, the child’s joy knew no bounds.

A happy youth was cut off by the war. The joy of the prom was crossed out by a terrible message. The harsh reality instantly knocked out the novice poet's poems "and gypsies, and cowboys, and pampas with stripes, and beautiful ladies." Now the heroes of the works are those with whom her front-line life passed side by side.

"I only saw hand to hand …"

Guided by patriotic impulses, Julia sought to become a useful country in the worst years. The girl even went to forge documents, and, assigning herself a year, got a job as a nurse, then graduated from a nursing course. In the fall of the 41st, when the enemy rushed towards Moscow, she and her friends were sent to build defensive fortifications under Mozhaisk. During the next raid, many of the group died, and Julia, slightly contused, got lost and was picked up by a group of military with whom her front-line life began.

Breaking out of the encirclement and once again entering the capital, she leaves for evacuation along with her father, who needs care after a stroke. But it is unbearable to sit in the rear. When her father is gone, she tries her best to be in a combat situation again.

In 1943, due to a serious injury, she was commissioned for disability, and the front-line soldier again finds herself in Moscow. She makes an attempt to enter the Literary Institute, but the commission did not like her poems, she was refused.

But the medical commission recognizes its return to the front possible. Then again the concussion and the final “white ticket”.

In the 44th, which came in the middle of the educational process in the darned overcoat and kersey boots of the front-line soldier and the invalid of military operations, no one could prohibit training at the institute. First, however, a free listener.

For several reasons, she could graduate from college only in '52. In the victorious 45th, the poems of Drunina, created from front-line memories, were first printed.

In the 47th, Yulia Vladimirovna became a member of the Writers' Union. Her financial situation is improving, and most importantly, collections can now be produced. The following year, the first is released. The subject is the same – about front-line friends and military roads. Subsequently, collections came out regularly.

Along with poems, Yulia Drunina also publishes two novels and journalism. She does a lot of social work, travels abroad, meets with readers.

The reorganization that has begun is taken by Drunina wholeheartedly and supported. In the 1990s, he became a deputy to the Supreme Soviet, trying by his actions to improve the situation of the former front-line soldiers and participants in the Afghan war. Realizing the futility of dealing with businessmen "with iron elbows", he stops attending meetings and leaves power.

In the historical days of August, the 91st patriot of Russia is among the defenders of the White House, and after a while suddenly makes the decision to part with life.

For her creative and social activities, Yulia Vladimirovna Drunina was repeatedly marked by state awards and prizes.

"But I still have no happier …"

The young poet has met the first enthusiastic feeling of love in the trenches. With a slight sadness in her works emerges the image of an unknown "battalion commander" who died before her eyes.

As a student, Julia meets a fellow student, marries him. It was the front-line poet Nikolai Starshinov. Marriage is born only daughter Drunin – Elena. Spouses live difficult materially, and besides, the wife is completely not adapted to everyday life. The family breaks up in the 60th year.

And only the second marriage brings true happiness to the woman. Julia met Alexei Yakovlevich Kapler as early as the 54th year, feelings arose, but for six long years she remained loyal to her first husband, and married Alexei only when he divorced. Their life together is 19 years of endless happiness. The death of a spouse drives the poetess into depression, she does not communicate with anyone for a long time, except for her daughter.

The wrestler, in essence of his life, hardened by the war, firm in character, Julia Drunina, could not survive the loss of her husband and the collapse of the beloved country with all her heart. She voluntarily went into oblivion, writing several letters and leaving a suicide poem, which explained everything.
